This is a cover of the song "Sun of a Gun", appearing on the 2011 self-titled second album of Danish musician Oh Land; done in the droning, rambling, pulverizing style of Sunn O))). My first published cover. Both Oh Land and Sunn O))) are two of my favorite bands, yet they are of such disparate musical persuasions and mindsets. Many linguistic puns and merges are not lost on me between the bands' names (i.e. Ø))); O))) Land). The fact that Sunn O))) actually have a song titled "Sin Nanna" certainly supplies some material here. I thought of having a tattoo in double tribute to both bands, but recognized that covering this song, and making such a wordplay referencing the band whose style I was unabashedly aping, would be more fitting, and would give more to the world.

On October 12, 2013, I saw Oh Land perform live at the Black Sheep in Colorado Springs. Having started knowing her music and being a college obsession in 2012/13, I knew that it would be a waste to turn down such a golden ticket of this woman coming all the way from Denmark to perform in my region in the United States.* The opening bands were Millicent from Colorado Springs, and Sun Rai, from New South Wales, Australia.

At the concert, I specifically remember I was wearing my Khanate shirt. A random man, likely a staff member, hovered a hand in front of me, with clear intention of high-fiving me. I reciprocated, and he responded, pointing and enthusiastic, "Nice shirt!"

The concert was a mind-blasting one, where she showcased an excellently rehearsed set, and engaged warmly with the audience; she once pointed out an audience member whom she had been camping neighbors with, high-fived him, and appreciated him coming. Tihs concert was the closest I would ever come to seeing, say, the video for "Renaissance Girls" in person (she did the same choreographic head movements live here as she did in the video). Nanna personally being at the merch table showed the fans who went there, and me personally, that she cared about us. Meeting her and seeing her live was an absolute highlight of this time in my life. Concerts such as this was a rarity for me at the time due to circumstance, and I was so rushed and excitable about the prospect of going to more like this, and enthusing about such to fellow attendees and merch handlers.

This song is intended as a standalone track, and there are no present plans to release it physically.

It's only, like, 10 times longer than the original. Not that big a deal.

*DISCLAIMER: Colorado Springs was one of the nearest big cities to my locales at the time; I have never been a resident of the city.
